Social Media Tips and Tricks

You’ve heard about Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) from mainstream media, blogs, even celebrities are chirping about it. Twitter has exploded around the world. In fact, at nearly three years old, Twitter grew 1,382 percent between February 2008 and February 2009 – from 475,000 to 7 million unique visitors.

From twitpic to twitalyzer to twibes, there are numerous services to use within and in addition to Twitter, yet all revolve around this 140-characters-or-less phenomenon. Here are some additional services you may or may not have heard of, but are still good to be aware of. Please note a few of these services are still being tested, therefore more research should be done prior to using them for the first time.

  • Tweetmeme: http://tweetmeme.com – a service that aggregates all the links on Twitter to determine which are most popular. It then places the links into categories and subcategories to make it easier to filter out the noise and find the information you’re interested in.”
  • Tweetree: http://tweetree.com – a service that puts your Twitter stream in a tree, so you can see the posts people are replying to in context. It also includes external content such as twitpics, YouTube videos, etc.
  • TweetFunnel: http://www.tweetfunnel.com – a service for businesses or organizations using Twitter via multiple accounts, that assigns “publishers,” who have permission to create and publish tweets and assigns “contributors,” who create tweets and submit tweets for review. It also can be used to monitor tweets mentioning your Twitter handle. (Still being tested.)
  • TweetPsych: http://tweetpsych.com – a service that builds a psychological profile of a person based on the content of their tweets. Though it requests that the user has more than 1,000 tweets posted. (Still being tested.)
  • TwitterCounter: http://twittercounter.com – a service that calculates the number of followers, friends and updates in bar and line graphs. It also includes stats on a Twitter user’s average follower growth per day and visits on the page.

Happy tweeting everyone! I hope you find these tips and tricks helpful.
